Volunteer

If you talk to any international volunteer who has traveled to support people in developing countries, they will tell you the same thing.  “There is something so special about living with people of another culture and experiencing first hand their joys as well as trials and tribulations.  There are really no adequate words to describe such an inspiring, cultural, heart wrenching and eye opening experience.  I feel I really helped out, but what I got back was so much more than I gave.”

The only way you can really find out for yourself is to make a volunteer trip to Tanzania. There are many organizations which help plan volunteer trips for individuals who have an adventuresome and compassionate heart. See our Links section for information about traveling to Tanzania.

Plan your own Fundraiser: Plan your own event or conduct an email or letter writing campaign.
Most of us who live in developed countries have enough media exposure through papers, television, movies and magazines to have learned about the bleak circumstances and difficulties suffered by those who live in developing countries and in poverty.  We have the shared feeling of empathy for those we see in living color who have so many worries and little hope for the future.  And at the same time, we feel completely frustrated and helpless to do anything to improve the situation.  But fortunately for all of us, there is so much we can do with just a little time and effort. Below are some ideas for some simple and fun ways to raise much needed funds for a cause you care about.

Penny Wars Fundraising Campaign:  You can implement this easily at your school, workplace or church.  All you need are a set of easy instructions, jars to collect change and a group of people who would love to help others by participating in a little friendly competition.  If you are interested in implementing a “Penny Wars” campaign at your organization and helping Elimu Africa, please contact Joelle Rosser.

Get up and Move for Africa! You can easily plan a walk or bike-a-thon with the aim of raising both money for Elimu Africa projects and awareness about the struggles and beauty of people in Africa.  Get fit and socialize for a good cause.  For information on how to plan and implement a “Get up and Move for Africa” campaign, contact Joelle Rosser.

Dine for a Cause:  What would you think if you could spend time with friends and enjoy a good meal while doing something to improve the world? The concept of “Dine for a Cause” is very basic.  Invite your friends for dinner.  Ask each invitee to contribute the amount they would normally spend for a dinner out and send the funds to Elimu Africa to help the students in Tanzania.  Have fun and feel good – it’s a win-win situation.  If you are interested in planning a “Dining for a Cause” fundraiser, contact Kristy Blick.

Teacher to Teacher Sponsorship
:  This is a fundraiser that can be conducted in an educational setting.  Collect funds, and then donate them to the Second Chance Education Center for the specific purpose of sponsoring a teacher’s salary for all or part of one year.  The average teacher’s salary is approximately $2,600.00 per year.  If you have questions on how to conduct your “Teacher to Teacher” please contact Kristy Blick, Elimu Africa Chair.

Note:  All funds you send to Elimu Africa will go directly to the cause of helping disadvantaged kids in Africa obtain their education. Please make checks out to "Elimu Africa."
